Meeting People Where They Are — With Compassion and Purpose

The HFTIC Street Outreach team is dedicated to engaging individuals and families experiencing unsheltered homelessness—whether it’s their first time or a long-term reality. We meet people where they are, without judgment or expectations, offering compassion, empathy, and the support needed to build trust and foster connection.

Our outreach work focuses on serving individuals living in places not meant for habitation, including wooded encampments, under bridges, at bus stops, or on benches throughout Mecklenburg County. Approximately 80–90% of those we serve identify as BIPOC.

We provide critical survival supplies such as:

  • Sleeping bags and blankets

  • Food and water

  • First aid kits

  • Pet supplies

  • Hygiene items

More importantly, we help navigate access to essential services such as:

  • Emergency shelter and transitional housing

  • Permanent housing solutions

  • Mental and physical healthcare

  • Substance use support

  • Employment and income resources

  • Identification and vital documents

  • Family or friend reunification

Many of the individuals we serve face barriers such as lack of transportation, no phone access, or physical and cognitive challenges. We walk alongside them, offering support and advocacy to overcome these obstacles and connect them to long-term solutions—including permanent housing options.

If you are currently doubled up, staying in a motel, or otherwise at risk of becoming homeless, please contact the Coordinated Entry phoneline for help.

Coordinated Entry

Coordinated Entry is part of the process to access homeless resources and shelter and is considered the first step intake in to the homeless services system.

Please leave a voice mail for a return call: 704-284-9665. This number also sends & receives text messages.
